Gourmet Egypt - Packaging Design & Retail

Internship - Creating Products that are now On the Market

Generic Tin Box - Copy Writing, Layout Design, Dot and Bite-Outline Creation (Chalk type was Pre-existing)

Overview: For a Packaging studio course at university, the professor selected me and 5 more peers to create a new selection of packaging designs for Egypt’s most luxurious, high-end supermarket. After learning that I also minor in Architectural Design, the owners of the company allowed me the opportunity to share proposals for their retail stores and ways to make the space more attractive to its customers. Most designs were created with sustainability in mind, whether functional and therefore reusable, or uses up as little material as possible. Internship took place for a month in January 2020.

Valentine's Day Chocolate Box - Die-cut and Lettering Design

My Role: Each student was assigned different tasks, I got to work on creating a generic tin box for the bakery section, re-design the layout and label structure for the honey to suit its new flavor additions, create the valentine’s day chocolate box by creating customized lettering and a special die-cut to suit the quirky occasion, as well as the rotisserie package which I fully illustrated and lettered. Other designs have been created but have not been launched to the market at this point so will be kept confidential.

Rotisserie Packaging - Typography, Illustrations and Layout Design

 Throughout the internship:

Softwares: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Mediums & Techniques: Die-cut design, Illustration, Lettering and Layout design

Honey Label Upgrade - Layout and Die-Cut Design

This label used to have the same illustrations and typography however the label wrapped around the jar fully. This did not suit the product addition of nuts that are already aesthetically pleasing, therefore I created a smaller label, that suited the bubble-shaped jar and rearranged the typography while creating a new mask for the pre-existing illustrations. I also created supplementary stickers for the different flavors. They are currently present on the shelves of all gourmet stores in Egypt.

Retail Proposals

Gourmet being the high-end luxury supermarket of Egypt mainly caters to a particular segment of society who are interested in health and wellness. A large segment of their clientele are expats or English-speaking customers who are interested in buying imported or pricier product ranges. The “before” image is taken in one of their smallest yet most popular stores, and I found that filling spaces with illustrations only made the space more crowded. I decided to replace the illustrations banner with a “pun” that feels welcoming, reflects a high-end concept and is relatable to the items in this particular space e.g. fruits, vegetables and immunity shots. Bringing typography to retail design can truly add value to the space when relevant.
